The story behind the mess in the kitchen..

Hi everyone, I'm Theresa. Welcome to Blaine Mountain Bakery. Baking wasn't a big part of my life until I had children of my own. When I was young, my family moved to Montana from Washington state when I was 8 years old. I attended Mountain Brook School and then Cayuse Prairie for elementary school. After elementary school, I went to Flathead High (GO BRAVES!). After graduation, I stayed in the Flathead Valley and started my own family at a young age. We were fortunate enough to find a home just a few miles from where I grew up, and it's where we still call home to this day.

When I was young, my mom was busy taking care of our home and making the most amazing loaves of bread and rolls. Growing up in a large family and not running to the store every time we needed something was a part of life. I wasn't in the kitchen; I was outside running wild. My love for the outdoors has not changed, but my love for baking has. When I had children, I took up motherhood like it was meant to be. I'm not tooting my own horn, but I do love nurturing, and it came somewhat easy for me. Maybe it was because of my younger siblings, whom I would help take care of at times, or just watching my mom take care of 11 human beings so effortlessly (she would probably disagree with that statement πŸ˜‰). My father worked in the timber industry, and every weekend it seemed we were outside doing something. We would go get firewood to heat our home during the winter, pick huckleberries, go camping, fishing, hunting, or visit my grandmother who lived on Bitterroot Lake. Anything to just be outside was what I loved the most.

I got a kitchen aid mixer when I was in my early twenties and I still have to this day.  Those things just don’t die. Thank goodness!

I work from home as a full-time bookkeeper, and I'm self-employed, which allows me to work my own hours and easily fit baking into my workload. When I'm not in my office or kitchen, you'll find me working around our house, boating, hiking, camping, hunting, or pretty much anything that involves being outdoors. After all, this is Montana – the best place to be is outside!
